2026 Finalist - The BreakAway Recovery Home

Second Recovery Home Renovation & Opening

Executive Summary

BreakAway Recovery Home is a 12-step-based, community-supported residential program in Floyd County, Indiana, providing safe, stable, and structured long-term residential living for women rebuilding their lives after substance use disorder, incarceration, difficult life circumstances, or homelessness. Our mission is to provide a place where women can heal, rebuild, and re-enter the community with dignity, stability, and hope.

Women in Southern Indiana face significant barriers to recovery after jail, treatment, or unsafe living environments. Without stable housing, the risk of relapse, exploitation, and recidivism increases dramatically. BreakAway addresses this critical gap by providing long-term residential living, accountability, life-skills development, peer support coaching, spiritual support, and a community of women pursuing long-term recovery together. Demand for our program continues to grow, and we regularly receive referrals from courts, treatment centers, and community partners that we cannot accommodate because of limited capacity.

To meet this growing need, BreakAway seeks Impact100 Southern Indiana funding to renovate and open a second recovery home. This expansion will allow us to serve more women in Floyd County who are ready for change but lack a safe and supportive place to begin. The project includes essential structural repairs, safety and accessibility upgrades, and functional improvements that will transform the property into a warm, healing-centered living environment. It will also double our housing capacity, create dedicated space for life-skills classes and peer support, and strengthen the long-term sustainability of our program.

With this renovation, BreakAway will be able to provide more women with the stability and support they need to pursue sobriety, employment, reunification with their children, and long-term independence. The impact will extend beyond individual residents by strengthening families, reducing recidivism, supporting local employers, and contributing to a healthier Southern Indiana community.

BreakAway is deeply rooted in Floyd County and supported by volunteers, churches, community partners, and local leaders. Our team brings experience in recovery, compliance, and healing-centered care, and we operate with strong accountability and stewardship. The property is secured, the need is urgent, and community support is strong. What we need now is the funding to complete the renovation and open the doors to women who are waiting.

An investment from Impact100 will do more than renovate a house; it will expand access to safe, healing-centered residential living and create lasting change for women, families, and the broader Southern Indiana community.
