Additionally, HSB5 provides center-based early education services to children 6 months to 5 years old at or below the federal poverty level, foster, homeless, and SNAP eligible. The HSB5 program works with families to conduct family assessments, create family goals, and provide resources and referrals. Head Start Preschool provides free full day services, four days per week, for 1020 hours during the program year. Early Head Start provides free full day services, four days per week, for 1380 hours during the program year. HSB5’s Program Nurse provides enrolled expectant mothers with at least one home visit monthly for 30-90 minutes depending on the needs of the client; additional visits are scheduled as needed. Families with enrolled infants and toddlers in Home Based services participate in weekly 90-minute visits and socialization events twice each month. LHDC’s HSB5 program prepares the community’s most vulnerable new mothers, infants, toddlers, and preschoolers to succeed in school and beyond through family engagement, resources, and intentional support. LHDC does this by delivering comprehensive services to children and families in early learning, health, and family well-being. LHDC works to build strong relationships and engage families to implement effective practices to promote children’s growth in the areas of cognition, social and emotional learning, language and literacy, physical development, and approaches to learning. LHDC supports families through health education ensuring expectant mothers receive adequate prenatal care, and children are up to date on EPDST requirements. LHDC offers a welcoming environment for children and families that is safe and well-organized. LHDC conducts developmental, social-emotional, speech and language, vision and hearing screening on all enrolled children to identify needs for additional services. Additionally, LHDC conducts ongoing documentation and assessments of child development, including progress toward school readiness. Our educational philosophy is that children learn through play. LHDC HSB5 encourages family involvement and engagement through volunteerism, advocacy, and leadership roles including the importance of father figures in learning. LHDC’s HSB5 program is governed by the LHDC Board of Directors and the HSB5 Policy Council. The Policy Council is comprised of parents of enrolled children who are involved in decision making, including the approval of policies and procedures, program improvement ideas, as well as funding applications.  LHDC is a Community Action Agency that promises to help people and change lives, embodies the spirit of hope, improves communities in southern Indiana, and believes in economic and social justice for all people across southern Indiana, now and always. We care about the entire community and are dedicated to helping people by helping themselves and each other providing services to all regardless of age, sex, race, color, religion, disability, veteran status, genetics, national origin, ancestry, sexual orientation, gender identity, pregnancy, or familial status.
